Yucatan hosts fireworks benefit

April 28, 2010

Going straight to the Fort Myers Beach Fourth of July Fireworks Fund, the Yucatan Beach Stand is hosting a Fiesta de Mayo party in honor of Cinco de Mayo Sunday, May 2, taking place all day in the parking lot of the restaurant, and currently seeking vendors and donations for the endless raffles.

"We're going to be using Mexico's defeating the French in order to raise money to celebrate our Independence Day," said Yucatan general manager Stephen DeAngelis.

The exterior will be transformed from a parking lot into a miniature Mexico, complete with fun, prizes and authentic games, food, drinks and local vendors.

Stephen DeAngelis said he is currently searching for local business and service people who would like to be part of the vendor area of the fiesta.

"I'm trying to locate businesses who'd like to offer their products and services," Stephen said. "If there's anyone who would like to be a vendor for the day, contact me."

The Kids' Fun Zone will be jam-packed with tons of fun for the whole family, from bounce houses and rock-climbing walls to bungee rides, multiple pinatas for the kids, contests and more.

Of course, what's a Cinco de Mayo party without the authentic food, right? Don't worry. There will be plenty of that, too. Authentic Mexican food made from scratch will be available inside the restaurant, as well as outside that day.

As for music, be ready to catch some Latino vibes from Luis Sepulveda and Valerie Morales, among other various entertainment and live music indoors and outdoors throughout the day.

There will also be plenty of raffles, prizes, freebies and SWAG ("Stuff We All Get"), "courtesy of Suncoast Beverages, Bud Light, Corona, Southern Wine and Spirits and a special thanks to the Fort Myers Beach Civic Association," Stephen continued. "They're instrumental. They're the ones that helped us obtain the permit to hold this. Thanks to them, we'll be able to have the best Fourth of July fireworks benefit ever.

"And, we are still collecting raffle prizes and cash donations for the fireworks fund. Anyone wishing to donate, call me at 822-1369," Stephen said. "I'll be happy to pick up any donations. And, anyone wishing to donate cash or a check can make it out to the 'Fort Myers Beach Fireworks Fund.'"

Prizes so far include hotel stays, a cooler full of spirits, gift certificates to local businesses, some grand prizes and more.

Parking will be available in the nearby lots, and food and drink specials will take place all day. For more information, call Stephen at 822-1369.
