Second annual biker benefit takes Bay Walk over by storm

January 13, 2011

The second annual Bikes on the Bay Walk, a benefit for the March of Dimes' Bikers for Babies organization, will be taking place along Bay Walk and Old San Carlos Boulevard Sunday, Jan. 16, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

During the fund-raiser, you'll see hundreds if not thousands of bikes from all across the region, from choppers and Harleys to customs and imports.

"You're going to see bikes and their riders from virtually any and all biker clubs throughout Lee County," said Stephen DeAngelis, general manger of the Yucatan Beach Stand.

Two stages will be set up throughout the day, boasting live music for all Bay-Walkers' ears. One will be set up at the Yucatan, the other at Nervous Nellie's.

"A great group called Cadillac Blue will be on our lot from 1 to 4 that afternoon," Steve said.

Also expect to get your hands on plenty of fab merchandise for you and your bike(s), as hundreds of bike-related vendors will be set up throughout the Bay Walk area, offering anything from leather and patches to art and gifts.

Food will also be available all throughout the festival beer tents and fare stations outside and many great Bay Walk establishments offering something special inside during the day.

"Held twice a year, this is Fort Myers Beach's version of Bike Night," Steve said. "It's a great family event not only for the Bay Walk group, but for all of Fort Myers Beach. It's an opportunity for our businesses to get a good head-start on the season coming up. The weather looks like it's going to be a beautiful and dry day it'll be a great time to ride. Come on out and support a very worthy cause while having a great time in the process."

There is no fee to attend the event, and motorcycle parking is free throughout the grounds.
