On Sept. 16, the Fort Myers Beach Kiwanis held their weekly meeting at Saint Raphael's Church. The business covered at the monthly Board Meeting was reviewed. It was announced that a donation of $80,000 would be made to Barbaras Friends at Children's Hospital. Still, another pledge of $20,000 will be honored for the construction of the hospital.
Also, discussed at the Board Meeting was a program that the FMB Kiwanis sponsor at Beach Elementary School. This program supplies 4th and 5th graders with workbooks and unique piggy banks. As the children save their money, Kiwanis member Eric Tibbs, a financial broker for Edward Jones, volunteers his time to show the students how to manage their money for long and short term goals; thus, showing the children how to make money work for them, instead of against them. The FMB Kiwanis will continue to sponsor this program.
At the weekly meeting, FMB Kiwanis President Trinky Jarrett made a motion for the purchase of a defibrillator, to be kept on premises of the Thrift Shop. The motion was passed.
