Mulligan’s Fantasy Forecast, Week 8

October 26, 2011
By KYLE MULLIGAN , Fort Myers Beach Bulletin, Fort Myers Beach Observer

Second guessing yourself can cost you wins in fantasy football. For example, I had DeMarco Murray in my starting lineup all week last week until Sunday morning when I benched him at the last minute in favor of Jackie Battle. Yeah, I knew the Rams were giving up more yards per game than anyone on the ground but the Raiders were giving up more yards per carry and I thought Tashard Choice might cut into some of Murray's carries. Of course, Murray sets a Cowboys franchise rushing record, I lose and my girlfriend gets to say "I told you so." (When I sarcastically asked her Sunday morning if I should start Battle, Murray or Daniel Thomas, her response was "the second one." So now she thinks she's a fantasy guru. She might be right.)

GOOD MATCH UPS

Darren Sproles vs. Rams defense: As previously mentioned, the Rams were burned by Cowboys rookie running back DeMarco Murray for 253 rushing yards last week and they've now solidified themselves as the worst run defense in the league at this point. That's good news for Sproles who will look to build off the strong performance he had against the Colts last week. Look for him to have a big game if Mark Ingram doesn't play and to be solid even if Ingram does play.

Mike Wallace/Antonio Brown vs. Patriots defense: Pittsburgh's dynamic receiving duo combined to make 10 catches for 220 yards and a touchdown against a sub-par Cardinals pass defense last week. This week they'll face an even worse Patriots pass defense that has allowed an NFL-worst 322 yards passing per game (No other team is allowing more than 289 per game). Wallace should be started in all leagues while Brown should be started in deeper PPR leagues as he's targeted almost as often as Wallace.

NOT SO GOOD MATCH UPS

DeAngelo Williams vs. Vikings defense: It would be difficult enough for Williams to muster much of a fantasy performance this week against a very good Minnesota run defense if he were the feature back in Carolina. But with Williams now getting fewer carries than teammate Jonathan Stewart, he's just not reliable enough to put into your fantasy lineup.

Sidney Rice vs. Bengals defense: The Cincinnati Bengals have quietly been one of the best defenses in the league through the first seven weeks of this season. Tarvaris Jackson could be back this week for Seattle, which would be good news for Rice long-term, but it likely won't mean much for Rice's fantasy value this week.

WAIVER WIRE WATCH

DeMarco Murray, RB, Cowboys: It goes without saying that anyone who rushes for 253 yards shouldn't be available in fantasy leagues but coming into this week, Murray was available in about 40 percent of standard Yahoo! leagues. Double check to make sure he's not available in your league as Murray is expected to start again this week and he faces a weak Eagles run defense.

Teams on bye this week: Atlanta, Chicago, Green Bay, New York Jets, Oakland, Tampa Bay
