Health department employee receives national award

January 4, 2012
Fort Myers Beach Bulletin, Fort Myers Beach Observer

Lee County Health Department's Purchasing Manager Angela McClary is the first health department employee in Fort Myers to earn the Certified Professional Public Buyer Credential following a rigorous education and testing program.

McClary was among 137 recipients of the national certification by the Universal Public Procurement Certification Council this year. She has worked with the health department for 26 years, of which only six were in the purchasing department.

"Voluntary certification is the best way to promote public trust, high education standards, continuing professional development and ethical practice in our rapidly growing and evolving profession," said Stephanie Creed, president of the Institute of Public Procurement. Public purchasing professionals are responsible for the appropriate expenditure of over $4.85 trillion in public funds or about 38 percent of the United States Gross Domestic Product.

McClary, a native of Fort Myers, graduated from Fort Myers High School and holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from International College.
