To the editor:
I am a realtor on the beach and have tried to pass a couple of ideas to the right people regarding traffic congestion on the Beach.
The first is walkway bridges over Estero Boulevard. We should put several walkover bridges all along Estero where heavy foot traffic is typical. Also, I suggest the Town buy the old trailer park at the foot of the bridge on the corner of San Carlos Boulevard and Main Street to make it a two-layer parking lot with transport over the bridge to the beach, and put multiple bike racks in the area (and all over the Beach). Every time there is a festival, people pile up the bikes on that open spot at the foot of the bridge. Why not just put bike racks there? This might encourage bike riders not to drive a car.
A final big idea is a circle at the entrance to the Beach, or a round about, if there is a walkway over the intersection. Then, a roundabout would flow better then a red light. Maybe even a beautiful arch-looking walkway that intersects from two or three directions at that intersection.
Check out Panama City Beach websites and see what they have done. The tourist traffic must have increased drastically since the area has been up dated, with less traffic problems!
One other major thing I would like to see is more bathrooms available to the public. Guess where most go now? Yes, our beautiful Gulf Of Mexico!! Bathrooms, bathrooms, bathrooms.
