To the editor:
I recently walked on the Fort Myers Beach Pier and saw a large pile of fishing line and sinkers lying on the pier at the end. I looked around for a monofilament disposal station and, to my amazement and disappointment, there was none to be found. I took the line home with me to properly dispose of it.
I have taken part in monofilament removal by kayak in various places on Sanibel and Fort Myers Beach. I have also volunteered at CROW and seen the effects fishing line and lures have on the wildlife.
On New Years Day this year, I called CROW from Fort Myers Beach because a pelican had a six-inch lure attached to its wing and beak, treble hooks on each end of the lure. This was very sad.
I hope this letter reaches County officials so that they may install several disposal stations on the pier!!
