To the editor:
After one pedestrian fatality and one gravely wounded pedestrian on the south end this season, both attempting to cross Estero Boulevard, here is what I think will help:
- 1) Install blinking lights 24 hours a day on all pedestrian crosswalks. Embed the lights in the tarmac. This will act as a warning to drivers because obviously some are just breezing through these crosswalks even when someone is attempting to cross them.
- 2) Add a crosswalk at the 7300 area of Estero Boulevard. This area has numerous pedestrians coming over to Santini Maria Plaza from the high-rise condos on the Gulf. The lady that was killed was attempting to cross in this area.
- 3) Wave your hand first to signal, and then don't start walking across Estero Boulevard until the cars come to a stop. Don't assume they see you or that they will stop.
