Peace, Love & Music: First Beachstock at The Cottage Saturday

May 30, 2012
Melissa Schneider - Editor (mschneider@breezenewspapers.com) , Fort Myers Beach Bulletin, Fort Myers Beach Observer

For the first time on island sands, Beachstock will be taking over The Cottage and Gulfshore Grill, 1250 Estero Blvd., Saturday, June 2, from 1 to 8 p.m., offering an intense line-up of live music throughout the day, along with tons of games, contests, prizes and more, all kid-friendly and family-oriented.

"We decided to start Beachstock as a way to kick off the summer for Southwest Florida families," said Roxanne Jakaitis, bar manager of The Cottage. "Live music and the beautiful beaches are what makes this area so special and so unique. Most of the music, however, happens at night, and the kids don't get to see it. Beach Stock is a great way to spread the love of music across the generations of the community, and celebrate the end of another school year."

Live music will reign from The Cottage stage from 1 p.m. to 1 a.m. Soul Funk Unity will kick off the family fun, followed by the Steve Farst Trio, the New Vinyls and Underground, all from 1 to 6:30. Then A200 will take the stage, from 7 to 8 p.m., followed by the Clanton Gang rounding off the evening, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

There will be a fun bouncy house for the kids set up on the beach behind the island establishment until 8 p.m., and Beachstock guests will have the opportunity to test out their arm with a dunk tank that will feature your favorite islanders and more.

"We'll have musicians, bartenders and servers in the dunk tank throughout the day," Roxanne eagerly said.

In the courtyard of the beach bar, enjoy more fun and games, a crafts station and temporary tattoo table, also until 8 p.m.
