Just before they close for a three-week sweep, Nervous Nellie's is hosting a huge benefit bash this Labor Day weekend, with the biggest of bashes taking place Monday, Sept. 3, all day long at the 1131 1st St. location.

"We are going to have a huge, gigantic Labor Day weekend party Saturday, Sunday and Monday before we close, featuring an all-star jam of live music, free food, free drinks, giveaways and other big specials all for our locals," said Rob DeGennaro, owner of the award-winning bayfront location. "Lots of live music, liquor companies will be on-hand giving away free prizes and samples, and so much more, all to celebrate the closing."

As famed local musician Ira Wilkes recently had a pretty serious medical scare, Rob and his Nellie's staff are offering proceeds of this event to benefit his struggle back to good health.

"We are so happy to report that Ira is mending nicely, and eager to get back to work," said Stephen DeAngelis, assistant general manager of the restaurant.

Ira is extremely thankful for the recent bash-turned-benefit in his honor.

"I want to tell everyone coming to this benefit that you're in my prayers for a lifetime," Ira said. "Thank you all, from the bottom of my heart. I love you all."

Throughout Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 1 and 2, enjoy Nervous Nellie's normal-yet-sensational line-up of musicians. That Monday, Sept. 3, look forward for an amazing lineup times 10 as tons of local musicians band together for the cause.

"This is going to be an all-day music festival, featuring lots of your favorite local musicians coming out to play, including Rick Robinson, Dave Collaton, David Richardson and Left of Center and many, many more," Stephen said.

And, all day long (until supplies last), Nellie's will be supplying party guests with lots of delicious and complimentary food and draft beer, as well as possibly some wine and other spirits.

"Get it while it's here, because we don't know how long supplies will last," Stephen said.

And, at 3 and 7 p.m., be sure to stick around for the several raffle prizes that will be handed out, featuring several great winnings from your live and local businesses.

"I want to thank all of our Fort Myers Beach businesses for their support. Because of them, we have such a great list of amazing prizes to raffle off, including several gift certificates to local restaurants, some resort stays, several passes for two aboard a sunset/dolphin cruise with Fort Myers Princess, trips aboard the Pieces of Eight Pirate Ship, and so many more," Stephen said. "I'd also like to send a very special thank-you out to Rusty and Rhonda, and Steve and Laurie, for their advanced generosity in supporting the cause."

Raffle-prize winners must be present to win. However, the winner of the big 50/50 drawing at 7 p.m. need not be present.

To make some type of donation for this big blowout benefit bash, whether it's monetary or an item for the raffles, please stop by the eatery or contact Stephen DeAngelis at 822-1369.
