To the editor:
I applied for and received my library card in 1997, shortly after moving to Fort Myers Beach and have greatly enjoyed the many services the Library has to offer.
I have served on the Board for seven years and have been the Board secretary for the past two years.
Until the construction began, I tended part of the landscaping that was on Bay Street as a volunteer. Although I really don't know how often I have visited and used the Beach Library over the past two years, I expect that it is close to weekly.
I am running for re-election because I greatly care for the Library and want to continue supporting Dr. Hommerding and the wonderful staff that are dedicated to making this library the very best that is possible. I am very proud to have been a part of the Library Board that planned and saved for 10 years in order to expand and meet the needs of our community for the 21st century. We now have a wonderful facility that is paid for. The Library has operated with great attention to fiscal responsibility and has no deficit. Due to careful budgeting, there are prospects of lower millage in the future, just as the Beach Library from 2001-2011 was operated at a 37 percent lower cost to the beach taxpayer than if it had been part of the Lee County Library System.
