It took 57 years

October 16, 2012
Fort Myers Beach Bulletin, Fort Myers Beach Observer

To the editor:

The Supervisor of Elections Office for Lee County has no record of a competitive election for the Fort Myers Beach Library District. That covers 57 years.

In November 2012, for the first time voters will be able to vote for the FMB Library Board.

The Library Board was not required to have a referendum on the expansion and the focus groups were not asked to consider size or cost of the extension. Now is the time for the taxpayer voters to make their feeling known. Many feel that they were not represented and that they need a voice at the table.

Mr. Don Kyte calls the few men running for the board dissidents. I believe we have valid concerns and professional backgrounds to bring to the board. These men are keen to present to the public transparency, excellent communication and fiscal responsibility.

One thing is for certain, all of us have learned a great deal about our FMB Library District in the last two years.

Jim Stevens

Candidate for the FMB Library District Seat 6
