To the editor:
The EIHS Board of Directors wish to thank all who assisted with the two-day field trip last week for the Cypress Lake Middle School sixth grade students. We were glad to be a small part of the school's 50th history celebration.
As director of the Beach Library, Leroy Hommerding graciously accommodated three classes each day during his busy schedule with many students eager to return with their parents to our beautiful new facility.
Both Terry Cain and Vicki Little from Lee County Parks and Recreation directed students to the Matanzas Pass Preserve outdoor classroom, which they have nurtured for years.
Bay Oaks Recreation Center provided their facility for a third classroom as well as a lunch room, set up by staff members Adam and Randy. Not surprisingly, Topp's Supermarket stepped up by donating water bottles for students and faculty, as manager Chris delivered the chilled bottles himself to grateful faculty and students.
As long-time members of the Estero Island Historic Society and Nature Center, it is a pleasure to team up and present our year-round programs and hope you too will want to join our membership as we continue to preserve our island's history and natural heritage. Please follow our newspaper announcements regarding meeting time and place.
We especially thank our local papers with Bob Petcher and Missy Layfield for supporting all our Historic Society and Nature Center events throughout each and every year.
We look forward to meeting you.
