New Beach Chamber website has entourage effect

December 19, 2012

The Greater Fort Myers Beach Chamber of Commerce is proud about its newly launched website aimed towards the businesses of the local community with the ability to connect potential visitors to Estero Island to those businesses as well as businesses to other businesses.

Developed and designed by Roger Miles of the Miles Media Group in Sarasota, the website with a domain name of has taken off thanks to the design work and constant developing of Paradise Advertising & Design associates Katrina Salokar and Eli Silva.

"That domain had a history in cyberspace of traffic relating to our destination, but it wasn't owned any longer by the chamber," said Salokar, who noted Beach Chamber President Bud Nocera was successful in retrieving the name. "I said let's go ahead and post that website at Chamber Master, the data base that you log into to populate your information on the chamber of commerce website. There, they have the option to give the chamber members their own website each on the web page."

Katrina Salokar and Eli Silva of Paradise Advertising & Design delivered a two-person presentation about the Beach Chamber’s newly launched website their company is developing at Charley’s Boathouse Grill Thursday.

Usually a charged entity, Paradise Advertising & Design allowed chamber members to have that service for free.

"Google is changing the way search works and expanding it to include reputation," said Silva. "This website provides you like a web entourage for your personal business.

Silva explained the reputation-building process includes getting mentioned in cyberspace, traffic going through a chamber data base program and a social media hub featuring a website constantly updated with information.

"If you look up Fort Myers Beach, the chamber website is top ranking," he said.

"We also turned around and redirected the old chamber website page by page at the new website. So our traffic has doubled in a month," said Salokar.

The Beach Chamber website features social media functions such as FaceBook, Pinterest, "Beach Tweets" and quick links for accommodations, attractions, activities, entertainment and more.

"When you take a package with the chamber where they support you in social media, that actually goes out into the Internet and becomes a vote from the chamber for your business," said Salokar.

"It helps you take control of your key words and your domain and overpowers with actual content. So, that means your search ranking is going to rank higher, and your own listings will be bumped up too," added Silva.

Social media designs of the Beach Chamber website help push bad reviews to the second page into relatively obscurity.

"You want to control the top 10 listings in search engines for your business," said Salokar.

Nocera urged chamber members to adopt this approach. It is a free service with the paid memberships.

"You need to give us your key information. The more you do it, the better it is for your own website and the more referrals you will get," he said.

Buy a Bambi program update

Bayfront Bistro and Nervous Nellies Crazy Waterfront Eatery are the latest contributing restaurant businesses that have contributed to the "Buy a Bambi" fundraising campaign by donating 10 percent of their gross sales for a particular day.

Sissel Robertson of Crazy Woman Kayaks announced she is offering 20 percent off gift certificates for kayak outings, t-shirts or tank tops with the proceeds going to the Bambi program. You can purchase the certificates online at or at her FishTale Marina location.

The future chamber-on-wheels trailers are projected to be in the Times Square area and in Santini Marina Plaza.

"We can actually have the first unit done and in place this season, but we need some more money to do it. We probably need to raise another $8,000 over the next month or so," said Nocera.

Spirit of the Holidays gift-wrapping party tonight

Join Beach Chamber members at the Red Coconut RV Park at 3001 Estero Blvd, to wrap presents at 5 p.m. The presents will be distributed to local children this Christmas. Beach fire fighters will be cooking burgers and hot dogs.
