Mid-Island Laundry and Car Wash has reopened its doors under new ownership.
Owners George and Jean Kormos purchased the popular 1960s landmark out of foreclosure and are in the process of renovating it. The property, which is listed at 5669 Estero Blvd., but is physically off of Sterling Avenue, opened just days after the new year. It had been closed since mid-April 2012.
"We are getting a good reception," said George Kormos. "We've received notes from locals on our bulletin boards, and people are coming in and thanking us for reopening."
Mid-Island Laundry and Car Wash is back in business under new ownership and renovation.
Kormos said there was a need for a second laundry mat on the island. Beach Bubbles at Santini Marina Plaza is the only other such establishment. He also remarked that the Beach needed a coin-operated car wash facility, since there are no others on the island.
Kormos, who has owned Beach rental properties for 30 years, said a separate business -one called Stacey's Mid Island that will handle wash and fold duties, alterations, ironing and dry cleaning services- would open within the building under a separate ownership soon.
The interior laundromat is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., while the exterior car wash is available throughout the day and night.
