As we inch closer to the height of season, Bay Walk's Nervous Nellie's (1131 1st St., 463-8077) has been busy prepping and organizing some great special events for the coming months, to keep both locals and vacationers entertained and happy.

"Our special season events are kicking off with Jana Kramer, an up-and-coming country music star, performing an unplugged Country Night outside on our docks, weather permitting, Saturday, Feb. 16," said Stephen DeAngelis, co-assistant manager of the bayside restaurant. "Hopefully she'll perform her hit single 'I hope it Rains.'"

Jana's set will begin around 8 p.m. and continue on into the evening. And, Stephen suggested that it's important to get there earlier, like 6 p.m., "if you want to get anywhere near the show."

Stop by, have dinner, a couple of drinks and enjoy all of the musical action. There's no charge for the show.

The following month, get ready for a three whopping-big events, starting Saturday, March 16 with the restaurant's annual St. Pat Rocks Day Festival, which promises to be another huge hit, featuring live and local rock bands, food and drinks specials, and the infamous cabbage bowling game.

"Opening the festival will be Bobby O'Donovan, a fiddle player who's performed with Jimmy Buffet," Stephen said. "Then we'll get the party going with Scott Alan, the Island Doctor, followed by DVS and Bethanne, headlined by 10,000 Views."

There's no charge to enter the all-day festival, and enjoy food and drink specials all day long.

The very next day, the party doesn't stop, as Nervous Nellie's brings in Keep the Faith, a local Bon Jovi tribute band, rocking the stage from 3 to 5 p.m., followed that evening by local favorites, High Tide.

"A week later, on Sunday, March 24, Nervous Nellie's is proud to host the first annual Firehouse Flame Out, a BBQ?benefitting the Lee Co. Fire Marshall's Assoc.," Stephen said. "It's going to be a lot of fun promising to have a lot of great raffles, including a brand new Harley Davidson motorcycle, courtesy of Fort Myers Harley Davidson."

That's right, folks. Anyone joining in on this BBQ benefit has the chance to win a brand new Harley!

Entertainment that day will be provided by Scott Alan, the "Ultimate Island Party Guy," coming down for season from Put-In-Bay, Ohio.

Headlining that evening will be The Dweebs, a nationwide party band.

"It's going to be a mega-fun time," Stephen said. "Cheney Brothers Food Services will be bringing out the mega BBQ pit trailer, supplying the food and the personnel to operate that thing, and all proceeds that day will go to the Lee Co. Fire Marshall's Assoc., to help with their programs, like installing fire prevention equipment in Habitat for Humanity homes."

That's just the tip of the iceberg for what Nellie's has up her sleeves this season.

"So many other big events are in Nervous Nellies' near future. Plans are in the works for other popular national music acts slated to perform April 13, so stay tuned and save the date," Stephen anticipated.

Catching a cowboy cool Country Night

Every Friday night, from 6 to 8 p.m., stop by the establishment for Country Night, featuring some of the best boot-scootin', hootin' and hollerin' country bands around town, as well as Gator Country 101.9-FM on-location, with DJs Val and Scott from the Morning Show, giving out all types of prizes and giveaways, from T-shirts and new albums to free resort hotel rooms, dinners, gift cards and more.

"Plus, you have to try our special drink that night the Gator in a Glass," said Rob DeGennaro, owner of the establishment. "You just have to try it. It's $7.95 ?and you get to keep the glass. Also enjoy $2 Bud drafts that night, and $2.50 Bud bottles."

Plus, you have the chance to get your picture taken with a live alligator.

"Stop out to visit Gator John and get your picture taken with one of his friendly alligators," Stephen said.
