Smokin’ in the Mangroves event needs volunteers

February 27, 2013
Fort Myers Beach Bulletin, Fort Myers Beach Observer

To the editor:

Smokin' in the Mangroves, a fundraising event for a Beach Elementary student with medical bills, is in need of volunteers.

The BBQ competition will be held at Santini Marina Plaza on Saturday, March 2, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Volunteers are needed from 7 to 8 a.m. to assist vendors to their parking spaces; from 10 a.m. to noon to direct traffic at the plaza entrances or sending attendees to Lovers Key for parking where KuKuKanooku and trolley service will provide bus service back to Santini; from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lovers Key to help in parking; at 10:30 a.m. to register celebrity judges; from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. to collect for People's Choice Award ($1) per vote for our beneficiary - Lee Ann Wheeler - a Fort Myers Beach Elementary Student with serious medical problems and a family that seriously needs our help. Also at this tent you will be accepting donations for Lee Ann's family; from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to collect BBQ competitors' entries and present to judges; from 11:30 to 1 p.m. as golf cart drivers; at 1 p.m. for tallying votes from BBQ Pro and Amateur and Peoples Choice; at 1:45 p.m. to fill in a poster board size tally of the votes; and at 2:15 p.m. at the Awards Ceremony to assist with trophy presentation.

Lots of great BBQ and a very fun day!

I'm looking to hear from the best volunteers on the planet for this one. It has shaped up to be a world-class event and we will laugh a lot!

Please call me ASAP at 463-3600 (ext. 2) at work or 443-8810 (cell) and let me know how you can best participate.
