Spring boat show begins today

March 7, 2013
Fort Myers Beach Bulletin, Fort Myers Beach Observer

The 24th Annual Fort Myers Spring Boat Show runs Thursday, March 7 through

Sunday, March 10 at the Lee Civic Center. This is the largest springtime showing of boats and marine products in Southwest Florida and is one of three shows produced annually by the Southwest Florida Marine Industries Association.

There is unquestionably a renewed interest in boating, not just in our area but throughout Florida. After several years of struggle for most marine businesses, recent shows, including the Fort Myers Boat Show this past November have seen an increase in attendance and in sales.

"Boating is a lifestyle choice for most of us," says show manager John Good. "I think people are tired of waiting. The economy is better, and many have put off buying a new boat or making improvements to the boats they own for too long. If you have been out on the water lately on a nice day, you can see that people are not giving up their love of being out on the water."

This year's Fort Myers Spring Boat Show is perfectly timed to showcase new boats and marine products. Hundreds of new and used boats will be on display both inside the Civic Center and outside on the Civic Center Grounds. Virtually every major dealer in the area will be on hand. As the industry recovers, manufacturers are introducing new and more innovative models. This is a chance for the boating public to "see and touch" those new boats.

It's not just boats. There will also be a wide variety of accessory displays inside and out. Everything from electronics, marine supplies, boat lifts and fishing tackle, to clothing and sunglasses. The show is also a great chance to learn more about boating in southwest Florida. There will be lots of how?to boating information. And the ever popular "Fishin' Frank" and his crew will hold fishing seminars throughout the four days. Seminar schedule is available at

"The Lee Civic Center is a great location for a show", says Good. "It is easy to get to from throughout the area, the Civic Center itself gives us indoor display space for many of our boats and accessory displays and the surrounding outdoor areas are perfect for additional displays. Plus, there is loads of free parking very

close to the show entrance."

The Lee Civic Center is located at 11831 Bayshore Road, North Fort Myers (3 miles east of I?75 at Exit 143). Hours are, Thursday through Saturday, 10am?6pm.

Sunday, 10am?5pm. Admission is $7 (kids under 12 free). Parking is free.
