Despite inclement weather in between both Town of Fort Myers Beach events on the Fourth of July last Thursday, the parade and fireworks display were rain-free.
"Special thanks to Senator Lizbeth Benacquisto, Parade Grand Marshall, Representative Ray Rodrigues and County Commissioners Larry Kiker for leading the Fort Myers Beach Fourth of July Parade," said Beach Mayor Alan Mandel. "Hats off to the record 39 parade participants, the Lee County Sheriff's Office, Fort Myers Beach Fire Department, the parade judges as well as Bay Oaks, Public Works, and the many others on Town Hall staff, all who made it possible to continue an Island tradition.
The parade was judged by Rex Pontius, Paula Kiker, Bobby Mimmo, Bruce Cermak, Valerie Van Selow and Tommy Kolar, Jr.
Krewe of Sloth/Lantern Motors Flintstones float captured the 'Best of Parade' category at the Town of Fort Myers Beach Fourth of July event.
Rain poured from the skies in the afternoon and early evening. However, the 9:30 p.m. fireworks display were spared.
"With the cooperation of the weather, a large crowd throughout the Beach enjoyed a spectacular fireworks display," said Mandel.
