To the editor:
If you care about Fort Myers Beach at all, please make sure Anita Cereceda gets your vote for Town Council.
With the way things have been run lately, our quality of life on this Island is at risk.
Anita is both a business and home owner here on the Beach. She wants FMB to be a "tourist friendly" island while keeping it "home" for us residents.
I remember Anita speaking eloquently during the "Diamondhead" controversy as we sat for eight hours in front of the County Commissioners, who then "figuratively" patted us on the head and let us know that they knew better than we. This was the impetus for our 1995 Incorporation in which Anita was involved.
When it came time to elect a council for our new town, there were 23 candidates. Anita and four others came out on top and, then her fellow council members elected her to be our very first mayor. She did a wonderful job. Anita is very objective and fair minded. I always knew that any decision she made was what she honestly believed was best for the Beach.
She was there when our Charter was drawn up and she cut her teeth on the Land Development Code. Armed with her experience, local knowledge and love of the Beach, I can't imagine anyone who could do a better job.
