Nauti Parrot holds All White Masquerade fundraiser

August 28, 2019

The Nauti Parrot hosted its first All White Masquerade last weekend and the charity fundraiser dazzled.

An All White Dance is, just as you'd expect, a masquerade-styled gala where the primary clothing function is all white, usually with a single accent color of sorts. Even the menu was white-based foods, both for theming and to make sure nobody spilled something that would have been hard to get off of their outfits.

This event is very popular, with Miami and Tampa having them often and with attendance in the thousands. The history of the event is in memory of all the lives lost to HIV/AIDS and as a way to celebrate those lives as well.

The event raised money for Visuality Florida, an LGBTQ focused group that focuses on at-risk youths and adults in the community by providing community events, educational seminars, and resources for contact, medical support, and community.

"The Nauti Parrot tries to give back as much as we can. In the last two years, we've raised $50,000 between this location and our Fort Myers location," Tyler Geib, GM of the Nauti Parrot, said.

Hosted by their regular drag queens from Drag Bingo on Tuesdays, along with some extra guests, the party had raffles, dancing, competitions, and fond words spoken for those who weren't with them anymore.

"We want this to be a once a year event at least, but it could easily grow so much larger with a little help. Drag Bingo is already raising tons of money for local charities, and we're so excited for the opportunity to do more," Geib said.

The Nauti Parrot has, in recent times, been giving more LGBTQ friendly events on the beach.

By design, it's both intended to raise awareness, and bring more of the community together to support each other.

"It's already such a huge amount of outreach, and the love we get for it is breathtaking. But we're determined to give back that love in any way we can," Ken Geib, owner of the Nauti Parrot, said.
